What Convention Locations are in Houston?
The George R. Brown Convention Center opened in downtown Houston on September 26, 1987. The building was named for prominent Houston entrepreneur and philanthropist George Rufus Brown (1898-1983), who donated six of the 11 blocks necessary to build. The convention campus has undergone two major expansions, beginning in July 2001, with the construction of a connected 1,200-room convention headquarters hotel and the addition of three exhibit halls and more meeting rooms to the GRB, growing the facility to 1.8 million square feet. In December 2016, a second connected 1,000 room hotel was added along with Avenida Plaza, an outdoor pedestrian-friendly event and leisure space featuring restaurants, retail, and free live entertainment
